President's Corner

Hello,

My name is Mike Nelson, and I am honored to serve as your 2026–2027 President of MNACVPR. I have worked in Cardiac Rehabilitation for the past eight years with Fairview. I began my career as a therapist at Fairview’s University of Minnesota location and now oversee both UMMC and St. John’s Hospital in Maplewood.

Having now spent the majority of my career in the post-COVID era, I entered the profession just prior to a time when many long-standing routines were disrupted and the way we deliver care changed significantly. That experience has helped shape my perspective on adaptability, innovation, and the importance of strong professional connections.

My involvement with MNACVPR began in 2020 when I joined the Innovations Committee. I later served as Chair of the committee for three years and now have the privilege of moving through the leadership roles of President-Elect, President, and Immediate Past President. I credit much of my professional growth to my involvement with MNACVPR. Through this organization, I have developed leadership skills, participated in strategic planning, and built valuable relationships with professionals across Minnesota. In just a few short years, I have gained a network of colleagues I know I can rely on. I have always believed that while I may not have all the answers, I can usually help find someone who does. That mindset guides both my work in the clinic and my service with MNACVPR.

On a personal note, I am the proud father of three children (ages 4, 2, and 7 months). Life at home is busy, fun, and never dull. I enjoy working and playing outdoors with my wife and kids, cheering on the Packers, and spending time with weekly family gatherings.

For 2026–2027, I hope to focus on strengthening our relationship with MDH and continue exploring the many benefits of that partnership, establishing and advancing the goals of our three-year strategic plan, and increasing engagement with emerging professionals, students, and interns.

I am excited for this presidential journey and grateful to have you along for the ride. To the many members already involved in MNACVPR in some capacity, thank you. You are the experts in your fields, and you know your clinics best. As President, my role is to help support you, connect resources, and guide our organization toward solutions and continued growth.

For those who may not yet be very involved with MNACVPR, I encourage you to explore what the organization has to offer. Whether you are new to the field, early in your career, or simply looking for ways to connect, there is a place for you here. Even small steps—attending an event, joining a committee meeting, or reaching out to fellow members—can create meaningful opportunities.

If you have ever considered getting more involved, sharing ideas, or building skills that will benefit your professional future, I encourage you to join us. We would love to have you attend a committee meeting and get your feet wet.

Best,
Mike Nelson
