SET for PAD

Supervised Exercise Therapy for symptomatic Peripheral Artery Disease

(36 sessions of supervised exercise over 12 weeks with a lifetime cap of 72 sessions)

PAD is the result of systemic atherosclerosis, the underlying disease process that affects the blood vessels in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD), stroke and diabetes mellitus.

Health care professionals working in rehabilitation are well-positioned to provide exercise therapy, specifically designed for those with PAD, to achieve decreased symptoms, improve functional capacity and systemic risk-reduction benefits.

Two of the nation’s foremost experts in the field of SET/PAD are Minnesotans: the late Dr. Alan Hirsch and Diane Treat-Jacobson, PhD, RN, FAAN Professor and Associate Dean for Research at the U of MN School of Nursing. Their pioneering research and leadership in the treatment of PAD resulted in CMS granting coverage for SET/PAD in May of 2017.
